What is the Health Insurance?
How to Shop for Health Insurance
If you are a non-temp full time employee, you are eligible to enroll into the health insurance after 60 days of full time employment (40 hours per week).
The health insurance is through Independence Blue Cross (aka Keystone Health Plan East). There are 3 plan options, the HMO Silver Proactive, HMO Gold Proactive, and PPO Silver Secure. The PPO Silver Secure plan is national and will work anywhere. The "Proactive" plans only has a network in and around Philadelphia.
The PPO Silver Secure plan will work anywhere and has a very large national network. You also do not need referrals to see specialists. Most services do NOT have a deductible and merely have a copay. Some rarer higher cost procedures are subject to a deductible and a copay.
The "Proactive" plans are for companies based in or around Philadelphia. All the local Philadelphia Blue Cross doctors & hospitals are in-network, but they are divided into tiers with some providers charging more based on their tier. Tier 2 & 3 providers are more expensive than Tier 1 providers. This is especially important for high cost items like hospitalization & outpatient surgery.
